Am I totally ahead of the curve, or what? What was I just saying about Bollywood movies not being marketed to non-Indian audiences (and still getting big audience in the U.S. and the U.K.)?
Today in my email I get an invite to a screening of Chandni Chowk to China, Warner Bros.’ first Bollywood production. It’s also, I’m told, the first-ever Bollywood kung fu comedy. But you could probably tell that from the trailer. I gotta say, it looks pretty goofy and hilarious, and I can’t wait to see it.
It’s rare to see a trailer aimed at American audiences that doesn’t hide the fact that the film is subtitled… which suggests to me that this flick ain’t expecting to garner a wide mainstream audience. But baby steps, right?
Chandni Chowk to China opens limited in the U.S. and in the U.K. on January 16, 2009, and all over the damn planet as well.
