trailer break: ‘Iron Sky’ teaser

Take a break from work: watch a trailer…

There’s no actual footage from this film in the trailer, because it hasn’t begun production yet, but it’s labeled a “scifi comedy from the creators of Star Wreck,” so it’s not likely to be as intense as this beautiful teaser would suggest. I mean, “space Nazis on the attack!” could as easily be a dark thriller as a science fiction satire.

There’s lots of ways to support the filmmakers, if you care about ensuring that nontraditional, nonstudio independent filmmaking can thrive: You can buy “war bonds,” among other things, at the film’s offiical site.

I’m looking forward to this one…

Iron Sky is in preproduction.

Or Spaceballs meets 1941.

Ooooh or Hogans Heroes meets galaxy quest; now that I would see.

Heh. There is something so weird about seeing a sci-fi movie set in 2018 — especially one that had as weird a premise as this one had.

That said, this was one of those movies that — surprise, surprise — was not as good as the trailer. Granted, it was supposed to be a comedy and no doubt the rather obvious Sarah Palin jokes were meant to be quite daring back in the day. However, that part of the movie hasn’t aged well and while the movie is not really painful to watch, much of it seemed surprisingly meh considering its premise.

Plus the movie bothered to include that old movie cliche from the 1960s — the Nazi with a heart of gold — only this time the Nazi in question was a woman. That cliche hasn’t aged well either though it did make for one of the more surreal moments in the movie.

And yes, as one trailer for this flick hinted, it did contain a variation of an old Harold Saxon quote. But for some reason, it did not come across as strongly in the movie as it did in the trailer.
