question of the day: On October 30, will you attend Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity or Stephen Colbert’s March to Keep Fear Alive?

Last night on, respectively, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert announced, respectively, the Rally to Restore Sanity and the March to Keep Fear Alive. The rallies will compete for, er, ralliers on the Mall in Washington DC on Saturday, October 30.

I hope the DC police are ready for this.

On October 30, will you attend Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity or Stephen Colbert’s March to Keep Fear Alive? As Colbert often says, We’re at war: pick a side. So whose side are you on? What sign would you carry? (Among Stewart’s suggestions for good signage: I DISAGREE WITH YOU BUT I’M PRETTY SURE YOU’RE NOT HITLER and GOT COMPETENCE?)

More seriously, could this work? Could enough people show up to get the nation to, as Stewart suggest, “take it down a notch”… it being the overheated, bombastic rhetoric of the Tea Partiers, the Glenn Becks, the Newt Gingriches? Or is the more likely result that nobody will show up because — as Stewart noted — the rest of us who aren’t insane have shit to do?
