trailer break: ‘The Beaver’

Huh. Interesting metaphor. A beaver redeems an apparently irredeemable asshole. Can The Beaver redeem Mel Gibson’s reputation? Will audiences stay away simply because it’s Mel Gibson? Or do we have so short a collective memory that no one will even remember what a jerk Mel Gibson has recently shown himself to be? Or will we remember but not care?

I’m generally of the opinion that it’s only what’s on the screen that matters, not what people say or do offscreen, unless it somehow impacts what ends up onscreen. Unless the beaver starts spouting bigoted abuse, this’ll probably be okay.

The Beaver opens in Spring 2011.
