question of the day: What is the finest, wisest, or most useful life lesson you’ve learned from a movie?

With my Friday night fortune cookies, I strive to highlight some of the great nuggets of wisdom movies are often able to bestow upon us. Sometimes these life lessons can be expressed in one witty line of dialogue. Sometimes, though, they can’t.

Sometimes these lessons are repeated memes that regular recur across movies: “Don’t waste time or lose the upper hand by revealing your plans to your enemies, who will only use that knowledge against you.” Sometimes these lessons come along once in a moviegoing career: Why there is a watermelon there is a great mystery of life the answer to which you shall have to gracefully accept you will never know.

Along such lines: What is the finest, wisest, or most useful life lesson you’ve learned from a movie? Perhaps it can be expressed pithily. Perhaps it cannot. Even the very wisest cannot see all ends.
