Doctor Who thing of the day: public memorial to Ianto Jones in Cardiff

Spotted at Mermaid Quay, Cardiff’s chic waterfront, under which Torchwood had its secret headquarters:
Ianto Jones memorial

Not spotted by me but by @TheDailyEmma.

It reads:

Ianto Jones
1983 – 2009
Torchwood 3

Gave his life in defence of the children of this planet.

The management of Mermaid Quay salutes you

The small text at the bottom of plaque is the best bit:

Note:
Ianto Jones is a fictional character in the fictional BBC television series Torchwood (part of the Doctor Who franchise), which was filmed, in part, at Mermaid Quay. Ianto died on a confrontation with an alien species known as the 456 in the Torchwood mini-series Children of Earth which was first broadcast in the UK in July 2009. This is an impromptu memorial to the much-loved character.

Just in case anyone thought this was a real memorial to a real person.
