Rust and Bone (trailer)

I always love when trailers for non-English-language films feel like they need to distract viewers from the reality that they will have to read subtitles. What purpose does that serve? I mean, I don’t really understand why so many people are so averse to subtitles, but the fact is that they are. If a trailer like this tricks them into buying a ticket for this movie — because, perhaps, Marion Cotillard, what a babe! (which is also a fact) — what is the expected reaction? At worst, you’ve pissed off a moviegoer who then demands their money back. At best, the viewer is annoyed though might stay to watch the film… which I guess is all that matters. Selling a ticket is the thing, right?
