just when you think you’ve heard all the horrible racist crap the world has yet invented… (and other adventures in social networking)

What my followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ saw today:
• Hahaha, Fox News doesn’t know what “infamous” means. That’s kinda ironic, actually. New York’s infamous Grand Central Terminal turns 100

Fox News infamous headline

• For your Indiana Jones fix today… Watch a Great ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Making-of Video and Read Harrison Ford’s Script Notes

• Newspaper movie listings continue to disappear. Wait, what? Newspapers have been running movie listings into 2013…? Does anyone still use newspapers to check movie times?

• Just when you think you’ve heard all the horrible racist crap the world has yet invented, some old ugliness gets freshly dug up. Ugh. ‘Racism’ of early colour photography explored in art exhibition

• Brilliant! Die Hard with A Vengeance – Location then and now

Die Hard with a Vengeance NYC scene

• Really thought I was gonna zoom through a bunch of reviews today. But my brain is fried. It seems that *Bullet to the Head* put a bullet in my head this afternoon…

Item One: Apparently North by Northwest ruined New York’s Grand Central Terminal for good…

Item Three:  I used to–back when I can count on the local newspaper to give me a complete listing for the local theatres. Since I can no longer cut on that, I rarely buy local newspapers on Friday nowadays.

I’d say more about this subject, but not today.

Or count on that, not cut on that.

Heh. My bad. A Freudian slip.

Haha! Whoever wrote that Fox News headline probably took The Three Amigos and didn’t get seriously.

Yeah, I still use the newspaper. I can tear out the listing and stick it in my wallet and don’t need to worry about keeping a battery charged to access the information. You know, smart phones are lousy when you don’t have power…or when you don’t have a signal…or, if, hey, you aren’t rich enough…

Sheesh.

Luddites of the world unite! (But not via Twitter or Facebook, obviously…)

“Rich enough” is a relative term, of course. I don’t have a smart phone, and I probably have enough money to get one. But frankly, I’d rather spend that money on something more fun.

Sir! I am no Luddite!

Lol.

Maybe we can just be the I’d-rather-spend-my-$-on-something-else-‘ers.

I remember what your profession is, so I was being slightly tongue in cheek. But I will happily put myself down as an I’d-Rather-Spend-My-Wonga-On-Something-Elser.

The Making of Indiana Jones comes from the BluRay Indiana Jones Box set.

I also don’t do the smartphone thing, but for me a trip to the cinema has always been something one planned in advance rather than deciding on the move. At home, or on the rare occasions I’m in the office, I can check the cinema’s web site from whatever machine I’m using.
(And, well, even when they did print film times, about one time in three they’d print the previous or next week’s showings. At least in the local papers where I grew up.)
