Just as the pointless remake of Evil Dead signals a total lack of interest on the part of moviegoers in anything original via its very good North American debut comes the next old thing.
Can there be any good creative reason to remake Brian De Palma’s 1976 film? Maybe director Kimberly Peirce has found a reason. We might expect the director of the distressing and questioning Boys Don’t Cry and Stop-Loss to find such a reason. But if Hollywood were truly interested in Peirce’s subversion, it wouldn’t have been five years since her last film… which was nine years after her first one.
