Justin and the Knights of Valour trailer: silly English kehniggit

Sorry, but a boy who dreams of adventure is NOT “the world’s unlikeliest hero.” He’s pretty much the definition of the cliché of a movie hero.

This flick is from distributor EOne, which refuses to deal with me and won’t invite me to screenings, and I think it’ll be safe for me to give this one a miss once it opens.

Of course, girls never dream of adventure, only princes. Sigh……

Progress here, though. The girl dreams of being his sidekick.

RE: Of course, girls never dream of adventure, only princes. Sigh……

Point taken. But I’m not sure that the lead character is a prince. Apparently, the idea of the story is that the land is ruled by bureaucrats, knights have been banned, and Justin’s father is chief counsel to the Queen. He wants his son to grow up and become a lawyer. But the kid dreams of becoming a knight like his grandfather.

An English language film, but the money and the director, Manuel Sicilia, are Spanish, I think.

I’ve actually toyed with the reverse as a spin on the Zorro script concept; Don Diego de la Vega wants to be a lawyer, rather than a fighter. I thought a reflection on Honor vs. Justice and a repudiation of vigilantism might make for an interesting take on the tale.

So, this Zorro wears a mask in the courtroom?

Huh. Doesn’t look particularly interesting. On the other hand, what a voice cast!

A number of interesting actors doing the voice work (Olivia Williams, Mark Strong, Antonio Banderas), but the story does seem to be very much “by the numbers.”

Antonio Banderas doing voiceovers in a film about English knights?

We have arrived! ;-)

Great character design, but aside from the raven poop gag at the very end, there isn’t a single moment of this that seems exciting, engaging or funny.

An “unlikely hero” who already has access to weapons and armour? And a generic “hi-larious” voice-over. Hmm. Though as MaryAnn points out, it looks as if The GIrl actually gets to share at least some of the adventures. Which, sadly, is better than most of this stuff manages.
