The Selfish Giant trailer: so, not a fairy tale, then

Well, this looks depressing. Not that that’s a bad thing, of course.

This one is at London Film Festival, but I won’t be able to catch it there. Fortunately, it opens soon, in cinemas as well as on demand. It’s on my must-see list for the next few weeks. (And hey, the writer-director is a woman! Clio Barnard is making her narrative feature debut here.)

I might have been more interested if there’d been any attempt to get me to sympathise with the protagonist; too many filmmakers don’t seem to regard it as necessary, though of course it may be in the full film.
