lighting up the Empire State Building in TARDIS blue isn’t going to happen

Back in October I mentioned a campaign by a group of SF fans in New York to convince the Empire State Building — which is open to such lobbying — to switch to blue lights on November 23rd, in honor of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.

The campaign has failed. The group has updated its Change.org petition page with the denial of the request from the Empire State Reality Trust. And, indeed, the ESB’s lighting schedule shows that the lights will be all white on the 23rd (and surrounding days), the default lighting that isn’t commemorating anything. So it’s not like they had something more worthy to save the day for.

Pity.

Thanks to Ken for the heads-up.

That’s a frakkin’ shame and a real missed opportunity by the folks at the Empire State Building to join the worldwide celebration of one of the most iconic TV shows ever, Doctor Who. Oh well, as my friends over the pond would say, “Keep Calm and Watch Doxtor Who”.
