curated: behold the White House press release trumpeting Trump’s reviews

Holy shit. Donald Trump wants you to know how terrific his reviews are. He thinks he’s hosting a reality TV show, not in charge of the world. *hyperventilates in panic*

He thinks he’s hosting a reality TV show, not in charge of the world.

“For Trump, Everything is a Rating”:

“Mr. Trump’s tendency to treat truth as negotiable was idiosyncratic in a TV star. In a president, it’s disturbing. Alternative facts are what they use in alternatives to democracy.”

Trump is running for re-election, and he was running before he even took office. That’s why he’s called for a probe into imaginary voter fraud. He can claim that he won this election in a landslide, and he can pass legislation that will keep people who oppose him from voting.

Most of his decisions are part of his election campaign. The wall he wants to build makes no sense as actual policy, but it’s a great publicity stunt. When he nominates people for government positions, he treats the process like a reality show, with contestants who get eliminated. He spreads rumors and keeps people in suspense about who’s going to get picked, so that everyone keeps watching.

He’s also trying to prevent people from spreading accurate information, because the real facts would hurt his ability to promote himself with ridiculous claims. (See https://sunlightfoundation.com/list-of-federal-government-agencies-told-not-to-communicate-with-the-public/)

If he can damage our educational system by hiring Betsy DeVos, that will help him fool even more voters.

I’m not even convinced that he’s interested in politics. He may just want to be the most popular, most respected person in the world. Or to claim he is.

I called 12 Senate offices yesterday (got some live staffers and some voicemails) to declare my opposition to DeVos. Very easy to do through CREDO, which provides a script and automatically connects you to the next office after every call. Took less than half an hour. I urge others to do the same.

Yep. I’m planning to make calls this afternoon, if only to my state senators.

Here’s another site to help people make calls. Easy-peasy.
