curated: “Princess Leia’s Stolen Death Star Plans”

Oh, it’s just all of Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (sing it: “Princess Leia’s Stolen Death Star Plans”!) as Star Wars filk. Which tells the story of A New Hope in sequence. (By Palette-Swap Ninja.)

Absolutely mad genius.

More info here. And it’s downloadable!

I *love* all the impressive care they took with the details — like reproducing many of the Beatles’ vocal ad libs, tweaking the instrumentals to nod to John Williams’ themes, and making very clever use of some Star Wars sound elements (like substituting Artoo’s chirps for some of George Harrison’s sitar flourishes, or replacing the chicken sounds in “Good Morning” with the sirens from the “Rogue One” trailer).

Totally genius.

I thought it was pretty good, and then I found the masterpiece that is the title of track 3. You know from the scansion that that’s not the complete phrase. How is it going to end? Oh, like that.

“He’s Leaving Home” is a personal favorite. It’s not even funny; it’s actually moving, and it works.

The whole thing is very fine; I was particularly struck by “We know where our torpedoes go”.
Planning to play this at the barbecue this weekend and see if people notice.
