More than 20 years later, a sequel to Chicken Run is upon us: Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget lands on Netflix globally December 15th. (It will have its UK premiere at London Film Festival next month; I hope to catch it there.) Prep for Nugget with a rewatch of one of the most glorious animated movies ever made. Nick Park and his gang at Aardman Animations — of Wallace and Gromit fame — gifted us with a sneaky, cheeky parody of prison and escape movies, jam-packed with references to movies from Stalag 17 to Raiders of the Lost Ark, that nevertheless finds decidedly unsentimental pathos in the predicament of farmyard chickens.
