I’ve done no writing in the past month, in the wake of my mother’s death and all the admin and family time and just plain grief that has entailed. And I will be spending the next few weeks trying to figure out how to revamp what I’m doing in a way that works going forward. (This rethink has been a long time coming, even before recent events.) I don’t think it’s right to keep charging readers when everything has been on hiatus, and things may look rather different once I get back up to speed.
So I’ve temporarily paused all paid Substack, Patreon, and Paypal subscriptions.
I am going to try to get a few reviews posted in the interim. (Paid subscribers will still get any premium stuff, such as full reviews by email. You just won’t be charged for now.) So I don’t think I’ll be completely absent over the next little while.
I will notify you before I restart your subscription, and give you the opportunity to tell me not to restart you before I do so.
Thank you, as always, for being a reader and supporter of my work.

Please take as much time as you need. The movie industry as a whole is going through a bit of trauma-induced metamorphosis as well. Almost no one at my office watches films at the theater anymore, and very few of the younger ones even watch movie on their televisions.
David Lynch must be rolling over in his grave… yeah, I know he’s still alive, he just likes to sleep in an open grave sometimes when the weather is nice.
Oh, on an unrelated note, while skimming through your old reviews, I noticed that the titles starting with “I” make a sort of poem:
I am David,
I am legend,
I am love,
I am number four.
I am Sam,
I am a sex addict,
I am trying to break your heart,
I am woman, I am yours.
I, Anna, I Blame Society.
I Capture the Castle.
Hey, I didn’t say it was a good poem, but we can all learn a valuable lesson by listening to the vague entreaties of our inner Anna (also I Capture the Castle is a great, light-hearted book to read when the world grows heavy and depressing, as election nights often are these days). Good luck with the restructuring!
