Jessica Chastain compelled to explain that she is a professional adult, not a bratty child (and other adventures in social networking)

What my followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ saw today:
• Publicists don’t want me to see their films. Hardly anyone wants to pay for my reviews. Why, again, am I making myself insane over all this?

• Actor compelled to explain to the world that she and another actor are professional adults, not bratty children. Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence Both Want an Oscar. That’s Not a Catfight.

[This was posted at the Facebook page of the Alliance of Women Film Journalists.]

• Clearly, I need to write some bestsellers full of fabrications, and then I’ll get invited to speak about my work to the industry. Jonah Lehrer is discussing his plagiarism scandal on Tuesday

• The Knight Foundation, which has hired Jonah Lehrer as a speaker, says it’s all about: “transformational ideas that promote quality journalism, advance media innovation, engage communities and foster the arts. We believe that democracy thrives when people and communities are informed and engaged.” And yet it avoids all mention of Lehrer’s journalistic crimes in its bio for his speaking engagement: “Jonah Lehrer has written about neuroscience for a number of publications. He is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and has published three books, Imagine, Proust was a Neuroscientist, and How We Decide. Lehrer is a graduate of Columbia University with a degree in neuroscience, and he studied at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, where he received his Masters Degree in 20th Century Literature and Philosophy.” Knight Foundation: Media Learning Seminar: Speakers

You’re an intelligent, feminist film critic in a world that doesn’t value any of those four things. So clearly you’re already insane. My guess is that you keep doing it because it helps you to find a community of people who do value those things. And, since you’re the person who created that community, we’re very grateful.

Because we think you’re ace?
I’m very interested to read your thoughts on Mama, and particularly Chastain’s performance in it; I’m getting buzz along the lines of “she was OK in Zero Dark Thirty, but in Mama she’s really impressive”.

Because I notice you never hear stories about two actors who both want the Oscar having a fight about it. I think that is a very good point when evaluating a supposed award show catfight.
