Blood Ties trailer: should I be depressed, or optimistic?

I’m not sure which is more depressing:

1) Another story about cops and robbers, and brothers with a contentious relationship? Really?

Or:

2) A film starring Clive Owen and Marion Cotillard and Billy Crudup and James Caan and Lili Taylor, with a script cowritten by James Gray, cannot get a major release?

Oh. Wait. Maybe it’s the same-old sameness that’s keep this from getting a major release? Could that be a reason to hope?

I suspect that the studios are adding up the box-office incomes of the last three films of each star, scriptwriter and director, and thinking “eh, nothing much here, let someone else have it”. It’s not as though there’s a shortage of film product to release, much of it with younger and prettier actors.
