I don’t mean something you thought was actually an alien spacecraft — though that would be neato, and I’m sure we’d love to all hear about that — but something in the sky that you simply couldn’t identify or weren’t sure about, maybe at first, maybe still to this day.
It’s all shark attacks on Discovery, ice road truckers on the History Channel, and Honey Boo Boo on what used to be known as The Learning Channel. WTF?
Hobbit trailers? Zombies everywhere? What geek trope is driving you crazy?
My quick list: an iPod; 3D glasses; a Wii controller; a DVD box set of an entire season of TV show; an HDMI cable.
The first one that springs to mind for me is Out of Africa, because it’s a gorgeous movie, and because it’s about a woman, which so few biopics are.
This was inspired by my still ongoing catchup of Jasper Fforde’s brilliant novels about Thursday Next, Literary Detective. It’s impossible to see how they could work in a visual medium, but still…
