question of the day: Is the NC-17 rating doomed?

Mon, Aug 20, 2012

It seems to me that the problem isn’t with what the adults-only rating is called — the problem is how American culture deals with adults-only movies… ie, it doesn’t want to deal with them at all.

question of the weekend: If your birthday could be a special commemorative day, what would it honor or raise awareness of?

Any suggestions for my own birthday commemoration would be most welcome. Turn Your Brain On Day? Hug a Movie Day? Drink More Wine Day? I can’t decide…

question of the day: Will DVD bonuses disappear as streaming and on-demand get more popular?

Fri, Aug 17, 2012

Will they perhaps move elsewhere, maybe to their own streaming or on-demand services? Or will we one day see them as an artifact of physical media?

question of the day: What DVD bonus material has helped you appreciate a film (or TV show) more than you otherwise would have?

Do you usually make a point of watching bonus material, or do you skip over it?

question of the day: What are your favorite examples of amazing actors’ chemistry?

Wed, Aug 15, 2012

I’m not talking necessarily about onscreen romantic chemistry, though sometimes that’s certainly part of it. It’s about that instant zing of that ineffable magic that sometimes happens when two actors simply mesh really, really well…

Which movies or TV shows would have benefitted from less music?

question of the day: Has the Olympics been a break from the excesses of reality TV, or just another example of the same?

Mon, Aug 13, 2012

Maybe the absurd kerfuffle over gymnast Gabby Douglas’s hair suggests that today’s audiences will gin up a reality-TV-esque catfight no matter what…

question of the weekend: Do you have trouble being alone?

If you do, how do you cope with it? If you don’t, do you find that people are surprised to learn that about you?

question of the day: Which onscreen romance do you wish was real?

Fri, Aug 10, 2012

OMG! Mulder and Scully have hooked up in real life! Bella and Edward have broken up! How can we go on amidst all this real-life fan fiction happening right in front of us?

question of the day: Which movie or TV characters do you wish were real?

I think you already know my choice: the Doctor. Even if I weren’t worthy enough to travel with him, it would be nice to know that someone was looking out for planet Earth, since we’re not doing the best job we could be doing.
