questions

question of the day: What fairy tales are begging for a fresh new retelling?

Wed, May 30, 2012

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is already on its way. Anyone want to see Jack and the Beanstalk done up Lord of the Rings style? Or perhaps a feminist twist on Cinderella? And who would you cast in your fairy tale?

question of the day: Which film would you gift to a child as an introduction to the wonders of cinema?

The two that jump right to mind for me are, I think, obvious choices: The Wizard of Oz and Star Wars…

question of the day: Are you more likely to head to the multiplex on a holiday weekend?

Mon, May 28, 2012

Or do you prefer to avoid the crowds that turn up then? Are some holidays better than others for moviegoing?

question of the weekend: What sounds from the 20th and early 21st centuries should we save for posterity?

Sat, May 26, 2012

The sound of a rotary phone being dialed? The sound of the ocean lapping against the Great Barrier Reef (before it dies)?

question of the day: Do you hate-watch television?

Fri, May 25, 2012

What would you hate-watch if you did? Is this a harmless extension of the guilty-pleasure, or is something else going on? Was hate-watching inevitable with the amount of godawful crap that fills the cablewaves?

question of the day: What pointless remake of an old film — good, bad, or meh — can we expect Hollywood to foist on us next?

Not including the ones already in the planning stages, such as Annie, Dirty Dancing, Evil Dead, My Fair Lady, and Point Break…

question of the day: Has a surfeit of promo ever made you sick of a movie before you’ve even seen it?

Wed, May 23, 2012

In the current environment, in which devoted movie bloggers work for free in exchange for access to early material and talent, can we even expect any pullback on the hype overdrive?

question of the day: Do you have a favorite convention memory?

Tue, May 22, 2012

If you haven’t attended conventions, would you like to? Does hearing others’ memories of conventions increase your desire to go to one?

question of the day: What do you think is going on in this photo (of superhero toys and a book called “The Bridge Builders”)?

Mon, May 21, 2012

Are the tiny people the bridge builders, and are they assembling to build a tiny bridge? Or are perhaps the tiny people worshipping the bridge builders? Or is something else entirely happening?

question of the weekend: If you could travel either in space or in time, which would you choose, and why?

It seems to me that the decision is about exploring the known (if unfamiliar to you) or the unknown: who knows what could be out in space? It could be really lonely out there, and a long way between scenic spots.
