question of the weekend: What does being a grownup mean to you?

Sat, Apr 09, 2011
no comments yet

Being a grownup means you can wear your pajamas all day if you want to, and nobody can stop you. A 9-year-old of my acquaintance is jealous of me because of this.

question of the day: What would be the ultimate awful summer movie?

Fri, Apr 08, 2011
no comments yet

The blockbuster season is creeping up on us, and with it comes the specter of really really terrible movies. It’s as inevitable as sunburn, sand in your sneakers, and mosquito bites. My ultimate awful summer movie? I imagine it might look something like this…

question of the day: Is it a good idea for TV and film writers to incorporate fan input into their projects?

Thu, Apr 07, 2011
no comments yet

Star Trek writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have said that they plan to heed some suggestions from fans as they write the sequels. Oh, dear. I’m not sure how wise this is…

question of the day: Who should play Moe in the Farrelly Brothers’ Three Stooges movie?

Wed, Apr 06, 2011

Peter and Bobby Farrelly have cast MadTV’s Will Sasso as Curly and Will & Grace’s Sean Hayes as Larry. Will it be someone from the small screen as Moe, too? And who should it be?

question of the day: Must “great” films be commercial?

Tue, Apr 05, 2011

I think it’s certainly true that a great film can also be a commercial film. I’m just not sure that that’s always the case. What do you think?

question of the day: So who *will* direct the film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s ‘American Gods’?

Mon, Apr 04, 2011
no comments yet

On Friday I posted an April Fool’s QOTD in which I suggested that Michael Bay was about to begin production on a ten-part 3D miniseries version of Neil Gaimain’s novel American Gods. As it turns out, I was unwittingly echoing Gaiman, who only a week earlier had announced that, indeed, a movie based on the book is in the works…

question of the weekend: Should we arm the Libyan rebels?

Sat, Apr 02, 2011
no comments yet

And by “we” I mean the coalition allies, not just the United States. And if we’re getting involved in internal Libyan affairs because of, ostensibly, humanitarian reasons, aren’t we obligated to do the same in other hotspots around the world, such as Ivory Coast?

question of the day: Can Michael Bay do justice to Neil Gaiman’s ‘American Gods’?

Fri, Apr 01, 2011
no comments yet

Film director Michael Bay announced today, April 1, that his next project would be a 10-part miniseries adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel American Gods. Bay revealed that Shia LaBeouf has been cast Shadow, the ex-convict who unwittingly takes a job as a bodyguard for Odin, who will be played by Bruce Willis…

question of the day: Should there be a retirement age for artists?

Thu, Mar 31, 2011
no comments yet

Who could possibly make such a decision about when to retire accept an artist herself? Is there any way to mandate a retirement age for artists except by audiences refusing to participate as audiences anymore (which still wouldn’t prevent an artist from making art, only from having it seen)?

question of the day: Are geeks to blame for ‘Sucker Punch’?

Wed, Mar 30, 2011
no comments yet

Jonathan London at Geekscape has posted a downright desperate screed attempting to defend Zack Snyder and his Sucker Punch by simultaneously insisting that the film is not terrible, and also that if geeks hate the film it means they hate themselves. Oh, and we’re just jealous of Snyder, anyway.
