Looks good! Looks mainstream! So why isn’t it getting a major release?
For example: Darren Aronofsky and Rachel Weisz split up; he goes on to have the biggest hit of his career, she marries James Bond. Who wins?
The Guardian’s headline about the marriage of two movie stars somehow elevates it above the level of mere gossip and turns it into something nearly shocking…
I love Depp and Weisz, and I bet they’d be fantastic together. But is there any reason to remake a classic? Is there any hope in hell it could possibly be better than the original? Why bother to make such a movie at all… except that Hollywood is unashamed of its creative bankruptcy?
I would have preferred someone who’s proven she’s capable of showing a dark side, like perhaps Rachel Weisz (who apparently had been lobbying for the role) or Rebecca Hall. What do you think?

Once upon a time, a film this epic, this relevant, this emotional would have been celebrated as a great entertainment and important storytelling with something vital to say about the world today.
