trailer break: ‘Friday the 13th’

Take a break from work: watch a movie trailer…

So Marcus Nispel, the guy who made the pointless 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is at it again, eh? Except don’t call it a remake: it’s a reboot, if you please.

Do we really need a reboot of Jason, though? Is he a character who continues to speak to us through the ages, a figure with something fresh and new and relevant to say to a new generation? Is he Hamlet or MacBeth? Is he even Spock or Scotty? I think not.

Jason’s new rampage will surely be bloodier and more graphic and more… anatomical than last time around. It disturbs me that this is considered reason enough to reboot him.

Friday the 13th opens in the U.S. and the U.K. on February 13, of course.

I’m still waiting for a Jason Vorhees vs Michael Myers movie, but alas…

(Michael with his kitchen knife, but Jason is a gorilla who varies his killing methods. It would probably would be Jason, but I’d boost Michael).

Would you settle for Jason Vorhees vs. Michael Bay?

They’re also coming out with a remake of Last House on the Left, the 1972 horror film that first made Friday the 13th director Sean Cunningham famous. If the remake is anything like the original, I’m sure MaryAnn will have something to say about it.

I’d say more but, you know…spoilers…

Ugh. Remake of Last House on the Left. That’s a movie I’ll be sure to avoid like the motherfucking plague.

It looks like they’re actually trying to make this Friday the 13th scary. That’s just stupid. Freddy vs. Jason is a classic because they embraced the cheese. If the new movie is as po-faced as that trailer it’s gonna suck hard.

I found the original couple of Friday the 13ths scary. As far as I can tell, it was the first of the really sadistic horror series…the fact that the Jason X DVD has a ‘jump to a kill’ feature really says it all…

Plus the narrative made no sense whatsoever as of movie number 2.

The Last House on the Left trailer is interesting, but gives away the whole film.
