trailer break: ‘Solomon Kane’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer…

In my experience, bad guys who announce that they’ve renounced violence are just asking for trouble.

This looks really interesting: The 15th century is not a period that sees a lot of fantasy set there, and I can’t think of another Puritan action hero. (That sounds like something out of The Onion.) Neat.

Also: James Purefoy is pretty hot…

Solomon Kane is now playing in the U.K.; no U.S. or Canadian release dates have been announced.

I read these stories by Conan-creator Robert Howard when I was in middle school and I’ve been waiting anxiously for this movie to see a US release, but its been suspiciously held up.

I think it may be either a) really bad and so no studio is willing to risk distributing it here for a loss. or b) looks too much like “Van Helsing” (that stinking pile) and so they suspect it won’t fly here. or c) It was made outside the “studio system” and so they are punishing it for trying.

In any case it will probably be a straight-to-dvd film here in the states and possibly even straight to siffy (syfy) movie (which will really destroy it).

Sad, too. Solomon Kane is a great character who deserves a lot better.

Wait, James Purefoy as some sort of Badass Puritan Slayer? With swords? And no shirt?!

Why was I not informed?

While I dearly want to see this on the big screen, I have my doubts it will get distribution here. The big studios are much more interested in such high-brow fare as Stretch Armstrong and Walter the Farting Dog. (not kidding) This is why we have a region free DVD player.
