trailer break: ‘Knight and Day’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer…

Heh: Girls are dumb. They can’t even count to three. Heh heh.

OMG, it’s like a 1992 action movie crashed into an idiotic rom-com. Secret agents at the wedding? High-larious! Girls in hideous bridesmaids’ dresses screaming during a car chase? High-larious!

Don’t let anyone tell you Tom Cruise ain’t butch. Cuz he totally is.

Oh, the poor Marc Blucas sensitive guy, who holds Cameron Diaz’s hand when she’s upset. He’s so going to get his tender little heart smashed when Diaz decides that Cruise more exciting, isn’t he?

Hey, maybe girls are dumb…

Knight and Day opens in the U.S. and Canada on June 25, and in the U.K. on July 2.

Wow – watching that was like taking beta-blockers before a big game… everything about it says “this is exciting” but your pulse doesn’t speed up.

The most notable thing about this trailer is the total lack of chemistry between Cruise and Diaz. And after 2+minutes, I’m already bored.

I don’t know, I might see this. If Cruise’s character actually is insane, and not just misunderstood, it might make it worth watching.

I like Tom Cruise. I like Cameron Diaz. I liked them in Vanilla Sky and I will probably see them in Knight and Day. That this movies is lame and cheesy is perhaps not entirely their fault. Look at the bigger picture.

Tom Cruise (his real name) arrived in Hollywood just when the “profit above all else” reigned supreme and blockbuster cheese-meisters Bruckheimer and Simpson ruled. We are moving into 3 decades of this business model. Do I see this model changing in my lifetime? Nope.

Tom Cruise himself says it is his job to return the the monies invested in him. I agree with that. He is not known as an actor who phones it in. Sometimes he gets good material and sometimes he doesn’t.

The same goes for Cameron Diaz, sometimes she gets good material and sometimes not but she does her best with whats given and she seems present in her performances.

Hollywood is an old boys network and that is the perspective under which mainstream movies are made. I don’t blame the actors I blame the machine.

My thoughts during the first time I saw this trailer.

.oO( Oo, Cameron Diaz. As long as it’s not a rom-com, I’m there. )

.oO( Gah, Tom Cruise. Not even Cameron can save this now. PASS. )

“No one follows, or I kill myself, and then her!”

.oO( OK, maybe it’s worth a matinee. )

OOOOkay….Not even sure what to say in response to QueenCamRothchild’s post.

As for the trailer:

My thoughts:

1. Oh, good, someone’s read the comic book Air.

2. Oh, rats, someone’s read the comic book Air and is totally out to rip it off.

3. On the other hand, it’s a good thing for the creator of Air that this isn’t a direct rip-off because like most writers, she would be blamed for each and every single thing that went wrong with the movie while of course the director and the male lead would take credit for the few things that went right.

4. Unfortunately, not a lot seems to be going right in this movie.

5. Cameron Diaz either needs a new agent or is doing serious penance for The Box‘s failure at the box office. (Wouldn’t ten Hail Marys and ten Our Fathers have been enough?)

6. Does anyone take Tom Cruise seriously anymore? I don’t begrudge a family guy doing what he can to pay the bills but I really don’t get the point of this movie and I’m not sure I want to.

7. Stealing a sight gag from True Lies? And taking the one gag in that movie that almost everybody who’s seen it hates? What were they thinking?

I don’t like this trailer very much. They had a different trailer that I liked better.

Cameron Diaz does scream a lot in the movie, but when Tom Cruise is shooting the agents and crashing the plane, I can forgive her. I think most people would. When he shows up again, though, she should be aware of what he’s like, and scream less.

Mainly, I think Cruise can be very funny, and he looks pretty good in this, IMO. In that regard, I hope it’s good. Also, it certainly doesn’t look like a masterpiece (bad CG in all three of the trailers for it I’ve seen really hurts it, beyond the unoriginal story) but it doesn’t make me want to gouge my eyes out with a sharpened pencil the way the trailers for The Bounty Hunter and Killers (which looks like it might be the worst movie of the year) did.
