question of the day: What secondary or tertiary characters from literature deserve their own movie?

“James Franco in talks for Oz: The Great and Powerful,” Total Film tells me; “Johnny Depp has passed on the project.” I hadn’t even heard of the film before, and already here people are dropping out of it. It’s Sam Raimi’s next film, and it’s an orgin story, natch.

Anyway, it got me thinking:

What secondary or tertiary characters from literature deserve their own movie? Or even if they don’t actually deserve it, you just want to see it…

(We discussed something similar last spring, but that QOTD was about secondary characters from movies.)
