300: Rise of an Empire trailer: not directed by Zack Snyder…

…though the trailer is hoping you won’t notice that. And not starring Gerard Butler, either.

I dunno. I liked 300 a lot, but I’m not getting much of a vibe off this one. I hope it’s more than just a videogame…

Meanwhile, if you can’t get enough ridiculous comic book-ization of historic battles, 47 Ronin is coming to a theatre near you.

Well, thanks for commenting. I get the sense that the movie will be entertaining, if not actually good. I liked 300 OK as entertainment, though I had issues with it. The above trailer is a tad heavy-handed, but its tone is so serious that it’s oddly…endearing. But I think the most interesting thing about the trailer is that it’s two most important players seem to be Headey’s character and Green’s character. Given that 300 was so focused on men and masculinity, the fact that the chess masters of this movie seems to be 2 women is actually nice to see. I may be wrong once the movie comes out, but it’s interesting that this is how the movie is being marketed.
