Oculus trailer: we see dead people… in the mirror

You know that’s how they sold this film. “We see dead people… in the mirror!” was the pitch, and some studio exec shouted, “Shut up and take our money!”

And then they cast Karen “Amy Pond” Gillan and Katee “Starbuck” Sackhoff, and the fanboys shouted, “Shut up and take our money!”

It looks pretty generic apart from the casting, but the job of the trailer is to make it look generic. There might actually be an interesting story in here.

Torn between my desire to support Karen Gillan and my general dislike of horror.

Ms. Gillan is hardly the first female TV star to appear in a bad horror movie and I doubt she will be the last.

We don’t know yet if it’s bad. It might be good!

I’m keen on the actors making this a higher-quality horror flick… but the plot itself screams “why you so stupid, humans?” I’d be like “wrap up that mirror, bury it in a lake, run away and live normal lives!” Eddie Murphy ranted about this kind of stupidity (granted, he starred in that Disney Haunted Mansion movie later…)

One would think that Speculum would have been a better title, but I suspect they feared that people would assume it was a movie about gynecology.
