Sabotage redband trailer: gotta restrain my enthusiasm for this…

I really like David Ayer’s movies: End of Watch was particularly brilliant, and I am so looking forward to his upcoming WWII movie with Brad Pitt, Fury.

But I don’t know about this one. Ayer’s movies need really great actors to pull them off, and while Arnold Schwarzenegger may be an enjoyable presence as an action star, I don’t think he has the chops for serious drama. And without that, this isn’t a David Ayer movie. Instead, it’s just a lot a blood and brain matter and swearing.

And Jesus, that’s Sam Worthington?

Jesus.

I suspect a lot will depend on the script, which is based on — I won’t say, as I suspect that if you know that souce material it’s potentially a substantial spoiler, but you can read it at the film’s Wikipedia page. Script by Skip Woods (a distinctly unimpressive CV) and David Ayer, and Ayer’s other screenplays (apart from EoW) haven’t been amazing.
