Three of the five nominees are about women, and it’s hardly a surprise that their fresh perspective results in stories that are new and original.

Remember this name: Jack O’Connell. He is magnificent in one of the most remarkable portraits of soldiering in recent memory.
Even the marvelous performances by Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough are not enough to ratchet up the drama to the level of the totally gripping, which is a damn shame and something of a puzzler…
