Misogyny is no more palatable when it’s coming out of the mouth of a teenaged girl… and it’s certainly not feminist. “Act like a bitch, get slapped like a bitch”? Because that’s what bitches do: they get slapped. “Oh, take your tampon out, Dave”? Because girls can’t fight… so I guess Hit Girl is a rare exception. She probably doesn’t even count as a “real” girl, right?
Note that this is the greenband trailer: the MPAA considers all of that — plus two crotch injuries, one over which a “hero” expresses glee — appropriate for anyone to see.
Here’s the redband trailer:
What’s different here that might be objectionable? One utterance of “motherfucker” and one of “cocksuckers.” Bad words are bad for kids. Bad attitudes are no problem.

The first one was like that, too!
Yes (and I didn’t like that film, either). But the film was at least rated R. I’m referring here to what the MPAA thinks is appropriate in a trailer that’s supposed to be suitable for everyone.
Humour.
Has the concept of superheroes and supervillains been thoroughly deconstructed YET?! Have we not navel-gazed into these modern tropes to the point of creating a singularity? Does anyone on the whole of this planet think spoofing the concept of comic book heroes and villains is a fresh idea?
In other words: yawn.
Well, the 2010 James Gunn movie Super went for a more realistic approach to the whole real-life superhero theme–and consequently, sank like a stone at the box office. Then again the superhero genre is not exactly known for attracting fans of social realism…
Jim Carrey is still making movies?
He makes movies? :s
Okay. Is Jim Carrey still appearing in movies? Apparently so, judging from the trailer.
First one was ‘ok’ because it had a good score and a good overall moral message. This just looks like trash.
Well, we know the MPAA is primarily driven by the sort of person who makes a Concerned Moral Stand – and such people care far more about language and sex than they do about violence, and generally see misogyny as a positive thing.
Another thing that offends me about these trailers is that line “wait’ll they get a load of me”. I don’t know who you are, actor with a silly moustache, but you aren’t Jack Nicholson.
And that would be Chris Dodd, longtime Democratic Senator from Massachusetts. And as a Kennedy protoge, I’m saying your misogyny call is right on.
Connecticut. But I didn’t realize he was running the MPAA now. Huh…
Gack. I was just picturing the infamous waitress sandwiches and the time Ted Kennedy sat in on one of his dates with Carrie Fisher and asked if she was going to have sex with him in a hot tub. (Sorry, disqus bumped my reply to docrocket up here.)
Heh. They have an alternative version of this trailer which would make the casual viewer think this movie is all about the “Hit Girl” character. Yet the intro to the graphic novel version doesn’t even pretend to disguise which gender and age-group it’s aimed at–and it’s not teenage girls.
SPOILER
Plus in the graphic novel, there is room for a sequel. But I suspect most of you all saw that part coming.
