A Most Wanted Man clip: one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s last performances

Not a trailer, but a clip from A Most Wanted Man, based on a novel by John le Carré, which just debuted at Sundance. Distributor Roadside Attractions tells us about this scene:

[A] rogue German counter-terrorism expert, Gunter Bachmann (Academy Award-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman), interrogates human rights lawyer Annabel Richter (Rachel McAdams) on the whereabouts of her half-Chechen, half-Russian immigrant client, who may or may not be part a militant jihadist group in post-9/11 Hamburg.

The film also stars Robin Wright, Willem Dafoe, Daniel Brühl, and Nina Hoss.

The good news–in a week when we really need good news–is that a lot of directors loved Hoffman, so we’ll be seeing his last performances for quite a while yet.

He was such an amazing actor, and he prospered in spite of not being the usual “pretty boy” actor that Hollywood cranks out, but by sheer talent alone. It’s a tragic waste and he will be missed.
